We always have a wide variety of volunteering opportunities. Below are a selection of specific roles for which we are currently recruiting , however, whatever your skills, we may be able to find a way for you to use them!

Fundraising Volunteer – Campaigns & Events

This role will play a vital role in supporting our fundraising campaigns, events and initiatives aimed at providing essential services to individuals affected by cancer. Working closely with our Supporter Engagement Lead and our Fundraising & Engagement Team this role will assist with our in-house fundraising efforts and provide support to individuals undertaking challenges and events on behalf of The Mulberry Centre, seeing defined projects through from start to finish. Applicants need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong admin, IT, organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively. Previous experience of running fundraising campaigns/events or experience of marketing, advertising, or charity work, with the ability to apply transferable skills to fundraising initiatives, is desirable. We are looking for someone who can be reliable and dependable, with a willingness to commit to a minimum of 6 months volunteering 2 days per week (Majority of which will be office based) with The Mulberry Centre. Community Outreach Volunteers – Community Based

We have some outreach opportunities running a regular information stand and require volunteers to commit at least a half day each week  for a minimum six months period to support The Mulberry Centre by engaging with the public, raising awareness of the Centre and its services.  We have a weekly stand at Hounslow House (Monday mornings) and a  regular stand at Feltham Community Centre (Tuesday afternoons). This role is suitable for anyone age 18+, well presented and proactive, with good communication skills. The role description can be found here.

Community Engagement Volunteers

We are looking for people with good, flexible availability to set up and/or help run our stand at local community events, deliver posters/leaflets to local agreed businesses/organisations, and help out at talks/presentations. This can be a fun role and is suitable for anyone age 18+ (we will consider applications form those age 16-17 where consent from a parent/guardian is obtained) who are well presented and proactive, with good communication skills. We are particularly looking for volunteers who can easily travel within Richmond and/or Hounslow borough. The role description can be found here.

Volunteer Wellbeing Class Teacher – Yoga For Breast Cancer

This role aims to provide a fun, effective weekly Yoga class at our Centre that our clients will enjoy which specifically addresses the needs of clients with breast cancer. It aims to improve mental and physical wellbeing, symptom management and general quality of life by increasing range of motion and decreasing stress.

We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Yoga teacher or physiotherapist with an experienced Yoga practice who has taken part in an accredited CPD course in Yoga for breast cancer. Applicants must have an understanding of breast cancer surgeries, in order to be able to offer individual modifications, be empathetic, with an in depth understanding of the effect that a cancer diagnosis can have and have knowledge of safe lymphoedema practice.

Volunteer Wellbeing Class Teachers Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi or similar light exercise class

We look for suitable qualified volunteers to lead regular, weekly (or fortnightly) classes  for clients in Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi or similar light exercise classes. Classes can be arranged at mutually agreeable times and we are looking for a minimum commitment of six months. We run these classes here or at local community at venues such as Live Well Kew, TW9 4FF. We have received a number of applications recently so recruitment is currently on hold but we may seek further applicants in future.

All our classes are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms through relaxation, improved breathing and increased activity.  Previous experience of facilitating such classes and an ability to adapt to the needs of clients and their health conditions is required. Volunteer Complementary Therapists

Our volunteer complementary therapists provide complementary therapies for people with a diagnosis of cancer, their carers and bereaved.  Therapies offered are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms.  Currently, the touch-based therapies offered are: Aromatherapy / Massage / Reflexology / Reiki / Shiatsu or Acupuncture.

We are currently particularly looking for massage therapists who might be prepared to volunteer for us as we have significant demand for that therapy.

 Each therapy is adapted to the needs of the individual, depending on the client’s condition. Therapies offered are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms and supporting our clients’ wellbeing. The role description can be found  here.

Volunteer Complementary Therapists – Massage/Reflexology (Mentoring Programme)

Our Volunteer Complementary Therapists provide complementary therapies for people with a diagnosis of cancer, their carers and bereaved.  Therapies offered are recognised as having positive benefits and are given with the aim of relieving stress related symptoms and encourage relaxation.

We are ideally seeking those with a minimum of one year’s therapist experience . However, if you are newly qualified with under a year’s practical experience you can apply for our Volunteer Mentoring (massage, aromatherapy or reflexology). This enables newly qualified therapists who do not have one year’s practical experience but are fully qualified and insured, the opportunity to join our team of volunteers. As part of this training you will be guided through specific cancer care initial consultation, contraindications, treatment adaptation, additional techniques, body mechanics, cross contamination, and Health & Safety for complementary therapies.  The mentoring programme is not an oncology massage qualification, but it does count towards points for your Continued Professional Development allowing you to volunteer with us immediately after completing the programme. Volunteer Welcomers

Welcomers are crucially important in being the first people visitors meet on coming to The Mulberry Centre.  You will be responsible for welcoming visitors to the Centre, the checking in process, offering refreshments, helping them to find information about our services and ensuring their visit to the Centre is always a warm and positive experience. Welcomers also assist with a number of housekeeping duties, basic admin tasks, helping clients with their evaluation surveys and making donations, and other day to day tasks which support the smooth running of the organisation.  This is an ideal role for warm, friendly people with excellent communication and listening skills who enjoy being in a dynamic and varied environment.

All our regular Welcomer slots are currently filled  but we are looking for ad-hoc Welcomers  (applications from younger persons age 18 – 45 particularly welcome) who have flexible availability to cover holiday and sickness periods or those who wish to be added to our waiting list for a permanent slot. Volunteer Counsellors

We are looking for volunteer counsellors who can provide one-to-one person-centered counselling half a day per week or up to 3 clients, face-to-face, to individuals affected by cancer (patients, carers and the bereaved). We offer seven sessions to cancer patients, carers and anyone who has been bereaved.

Our volunteer counsellors must be in, or have completed, a BACP or equivalent accredited course; a minimum of 60 hours of one-to-one counselling hours are required and, if in training,  the support of the training organisation to start client work. Personal liability cover, enhanced DBS and membership of a professional body for counselling and psychotherapy is also required. We offer ongoing professional development as well as in-house group supervision. The role description can be found here.

Other Volunteers

We are always looking for helping hands who are not looking for a regular volunteering commitment but can make themselves available on an as and when basis  to help out at events or fundraising activities at our Centre or out in the local community.
