Aromatherapy/Massage Massage is both mentally and physically relaxing. It helps to alleviate stress and tension, ease aches and pains and is a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The therapist uses rhythmic touch and pressure to help enhance a feeling of well being in the individual being massaged. Oil, cream or lotion is applied to help the therapist’s hands move smoothly across the skin. Massage is a form of therapy that has been used throughout history - there are references to it in the Bible and the Koran. Aromatherapy has the therapeutic results of massage described above with the added use of pure, aromatic essential oils which have been extracted from flowers, herbs, fruits, roots and other parts of plants. Each essential oil has its own therapeutic properties and they are blended with the cream or base oils. The appropriate essential oils are carefully selected according to the individual’s case history, physical condition and mood. The therapist can treat you sitting or lying on the couch or in a chair. If a full body massage is requested, you will be asked to remove everything but your underwear and you will be covered by a number of towels to ensure warmth and privacy. If you do not wish to or are unable to remove your clothes, massage can also be given through clothes - no oil is used – and sleeves and trousers can be rolled up. Hands, feet, face and scalp can be massaged without undressing. |
