The Great River Race Story

Great River Race 2007

On September 8th, the Mulberries embarked upon their second Great River Race at Ham House, near Richmond. The starting cannon was fired by Sting. The race covered 22 miles, with the finishing line at Greenwich. The crew, which consisted of four ladies, including The Mulberry Centre Trustee Phoebe Daws, raised a whopping great £7,500 for the Centre. This year, the team came 189th out of a field of 279 and completed the course in 3 hours 53 minutes. Phoebe expressed her thanks to all those who supported the team: "My thanks to the many generous people, who donated to our adventurous day out and raised so much for The Mulberry Centre. It costs £500 to keep the Centre open for a day – you have raised enough for 11 days and I hope that the total may yet rise to pay for another day or two".
